A section of members of the party have repeatedly accused the youthful aspirant of being a political project, claiming that he is being sponsored to shake the Orange party's dominance in the region.

Led by ODM Deputy Party Leader Hassan Joho and Suna East lawmaker Junet Mohammed, they have claimed that Oketch is a project of both Deputy President and the county Governor Okoth Obado.

However, speaking to the Daily Nation on Friday, Oketch maintained that he is his own candidate, and is using his own resources, including his campaign  chopper.

"The claims that I am being fronted by other people are outrageous and meant to divert attention from the real issues in the campaign. That is political propaganda and the public knows that last year I mounted a bigger campaign in which I also used a chopper,” he is quoted by the Nation.

"I will not tolerate party campaigners who are spreading lies and propaganda about me," he cautioned, as is quoted.

Oketch, however, maintained that his rivalry has nothing to do with the party leader and opposition chief Raila Odinga, maintaining that his respect for the veteran leader remains intact.

Oketch who is vying on the Federal Party of Kenya (FPK) ticket is set to face 3 other candidates, among them ODM's Ochilo Ayacko.

The by-election is set for October 8.
