Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Friday took it upon himself to come to the rescue of former world boxing champion Congestina Achieng'.
Congestina was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia in 2012, after which her star started fading before slipping out of the limelight.
The Governor on Friday sent his team to fetch Achieng' from her home in Siaya and airlifted her to Nairobi for rehabilitation, further promising to offer her a job upon recovery.
This comes as a shame to Luo leaders who have remained indifferent to Congestina's woes 6 years down the line, specifically the Siaya County Government under Governor Cornel Rasanga.
It raises the question on the actual situation in the county as if the government could not detect and intervene in such a popular case, then what about the less-known members of the society.
It is as well a terrible narrative on the side of opposition leader and 4-time presidential hopeful Raila Odinga who as well comes from the same county.
Since charity begins at home, it was expected that he would have began at home by intervening in such cases before issuing his national campaign promises.
This as well goes to all other prominent figures in the lakeside region, all of whom seem to have stood aside as the ex-hero went down in insanity.
