Former Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama now wants Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) chief Raila Odinga not to field a candidate in the upcoming Embakasi South parliamentary by-election.
Muthama said the seat belongs to Wiper party.
He said ODM party members should back Wiper candidate Julius Mawathe instead of fielding a candidate.
The ex-Machakos senator who spoke on Musyi FM on Thursday extended the request to other NASA affiliate parties.
Muthama further asked other Kamba politicians who could be eyeing the seat to back off.
The former Senator exuded confidence that Mawathe will retain the seat.
“We are going to work hard and make sure that Mawathe retains the seat in upcoming by-election,” Muthama said.
Last week, Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria and other Jubilee party politicians declared support for Mawathe.
Kuria said they will support the Wiper candidate in the spirit of the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila in March 2018.
Jubilee Party has since said it will not field a candidate in the by-election.
Mawathe's election was nullified by the Supreme Court on grounds that it was not free and fair.
The Apex court ordered the IEBC to conduct fresh election within 90 days.
The election petition was filed by former area MP Irshad Sumra of ODM.
Sumra is among the candidates expected on the ballot in the by-election.
