Raila Junior Odinga‏ has hailed the people of Algeria for resisting the rule of President Abdelaziz Bouteflika leading to his resignation.

In a tweet on his official account, Raila Junior who is the son of former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga said the resignation of the Head of State is a clear indicator that the people are no longer ready for poor governance. 

He said that the resignation of Bouteflika will now pave the way for better leadership in the coming days. He also said that the departure of the president is a win for Algerians

“Finally, the people have won. Algeria's President Bouteflika has resigned!” Raila Junior tweeted.

Bouteflika resigned from his position with immediate effect. He ceded power after massive protests. The resignation marks the end of his 20-year rule.

He revealed that his resignation came as a contribution to calm down the rising political temperatures after two decades rule.

"My intention...is to contribute to calming down the souls and minds of the citizens so that they can collectively take Algeria to the better future they aspire to," Bouteflika said in a letter to the president of the Constitutional Council as quoted by Al Jazeera.

He also said that he decided to leave office to prevent any form of arguments that are likely to distort the current economic situation of the nation.
