Recently, a host of legislators from the Mt Kenya region convened a meeting in Naivasha in what has been seen as an attempt to forge a common ground ahead of the 2022 general elections.

It was a closed door meeting but the legislators later addressed the media on what they had agreed upon.

Among the key take-away points from the media briefing was that the region (Mt Kenya) had been sidelined by the Jubilee government despite having contributed to a large percentage of votes.

The legislators claimed they had been sidelined, development wise, by a government, they helped put in place.

This got me thinking if the Mt Kenya region has been sidelined by President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration, what will someone from let’s say North Eastern or Turkana say?

In actual sense, a majority of mega government projects have been going to Central region and the Rift Valley region that equally contributed to the Jubilee reelection has been getting a raw deal.

For instance, Coffee farmers in Central were given a waiver on their debts while maize farmers in the North Rift are yet to be paid for maize supplied to the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) a year ago, not to mention that they also have loans that the government has never considered waiving.

How many times has President Kenyatta visited Rift Valley compared to the number of times he has been to the Central region?

How many times has Deputy President William Ruto been in Rift Valley to launch a mega project compared to the trips he makes to Murang’a, Kiambu, Nyeri etc?

Looking at it keenly, it should be the other way round, Rift Valley MPs complaining that they have not gotten value for their votes.
