February 22, 2015, is one of the darkest days in the history of Moi University.
It is the day that absolute anger of the comrades at the Kesses-based institution was witnessed after one of their own was brutally murdered.
Charity Maina, a third-year student at the university had been raped and murdered brutally the previous night.
Maina who had spent a better part of her day at the school's library was heading back to her rented room when she met her death.
The tragedy sparked demonstrations among the students the next day. Police officers were sent to cool down the situation but instead, the students became more violent.
The officers were however blocked by the students from accessing the road after loading the body. The violence was escalating and the men in blue were forced to retreat after being overpowered by the students.
The body was off-loaded and taken to a mortuary in Eldoret town using the university ambulance. The police car, on the other hand, was turned upside down before being set on fire by the extremely angry students as the police officers watched helplessly.
Activities in and around the school were brought to a standstill and roads barricaded. Police officers deployed at the institution were overpowered and chased away.
It was a day that the comrades had to rise up and demand justice. Not even the police could stop them.
