You cannot highlight politics of Uasin Gishu County without mentioning the names Margaret Kamar and Gladys Boss Shollei.
These are two women who have radically risen in terms of political fame especially after the August 2017 polls.
Before the 2017 polls and a few months after the polls, the duo were close confidants of Deputy President Wiliam Ruto and could openly defend him on a number of issues.
Prof. Kamar, the Uasin Gishu senator, is one of the most experienced politicians in the North Rift with a huge experience in social, political and economic leadership.
The county’s Woman Representative Gladys Shollei, on the other hand, served in the judiciary for long prior to her joining politics in 2017.
Politics of Uasin Gishu have recently been centre staged by attacks on the former premier Raila Odinga by the DP’s confidants. But, what has come to my attention is that Kamar and Shollei have totally avoided openly talking about the matter anytime they get political podiums.
They could not just want to take sides in the tussle because they have allies in both camps and also they do not want to lose relevance to their electorate.
This being their first time in the devolution government, the duo is likely still weighing the political impact that would result if they openly defend the DP in the ongoing exchange of words between leaders from the two camps.
So, only time will tell whether the two women leaders in Uasin Gishu will start taking on the DP’s opponents openly as some of their colleagues are doing already.
