Political analyst Ambrose Weda has poured cold water on the recently launched efforts by two Central Kenya political leaders to reunite the region ahead of the 2022 polls.
Speaking during a fundraiser in Buuri, Meru County on Monday, Governor Kiraitu Murungi and Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri noted with great concern that the region is losing its unity, thanks to small groupings within the ruling Jubilee Party and upcoming parties.
They vowed to spearhead efforts to reunite it, a promise Weda has laughed off, bashing the two for relegating themselves to village politicians, despite being national figures.
The analyst stressed on the need for them to play national politics as their levels and experience dictate, urging them to emulate opposition leader Raila Odinga and Deputy President William Ruto.
He observed that the two groups share a number of similarities, advising the Kiraitu and Kiunjuri team to learn from others who seem to be doing fine.
"Kiraitu was elected to parliament with the likes of Raila who is now eyeing the presidency, as he (Murungi) is still struggling with being a governor. On the other hand, Kiunjuri is almost Ruto's age mate, have you heard Ruto speaking about Rift Valley?" he asked.
"They should act as the national figures they are and stop running back to the villages. It's no longer their responsibility to speak about a community," said Weda during the Big Conversation show on KBC English service on Wednesday.
This comes at a time when Mt Kenya politicians within Jubilee have divided themselves into the 'Tangatanga' and 'Kieleweke' groups.
At the same time, Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria is advocating for the formation of a new party.
