Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot has defended Deputy President William Ruto against corruption allegations.
Cheruiyot said the DP has very powerful enemies who would not hesitate to ensure he is arrested and charged if he was corrupt.
"William Ruto has very powerful enemies in this country. If he was to steal a pen from his Harambee office on a Thursday he would be in court on a Friday morning," said the vocal senator.
Speaking during an interview with NTV on Tuesday, the legislator asked leaders linking DP Ruto to graft to institute court proceedings against him instead of making allegations in press conferences or political rallies.
"If you believe that the Deputy President has stolen anything that belongs to Kenyans, why don't you take him to court. Why don't you go ahead and charge him?" he posed.
Cheruiyot's remarks come at a time Siaya Senator James Orengo has vowed to initiate a Parliament process to push the DP out of office.
The Senate Minority Leader says the second in command should be impeached over gross misconduct and links to corruption.
"DP's impeachment is also about corruption…it is not just about what he has been linked to but also what he has admitted to. I think he should be investigated…and if he cannot be investigated then the parliamentary process is another tool," Orengo said in an interview on Citizen TV on Tuesday night.
