Police in Nyamira have launched a manhunt for a middle-aged man who chopped off his father’s hand before going into hiding after a quarrel over a piece of land.
According to the area assistant Chief Edwin Obare, the suspect, Richard Onyambu aged 28, cut off Edward Onyambu‘s hands on Sunday morning after he (Onyambu) denied him access to their land with tea plantation.
They exchange in a heated altercation before he finally cut off his arm and fled.
“I was informed that the two disagreed on who should pick up tea and the father denied his son access to any of the tea plantations and that led to a fight that saw Richard take a machete chopping off his father’s right hand, “said Chief Obare.
The chief added that the villagers intervened and took Onyambu to Nyamira Referral Hospital where he is currently receiving treatment.
“We have coordinated with the police and they have already started seeking the middle-aged man who has currently gone into hiding,” added the chief.
The locals have been called upon to inform the police on the whereabouts of the man.
