Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) chairman John Mbadi has hinted that the Raila Odinga-led party may support the proposal to impeach Deputy President William Ruto.
The debate to remove Ruto from office has been ignited by Senate Minority Leader James Orengo who has pledged to table the motion in Parliament to dethrone the DP over alleged gross misconduct.
But speaking during an exclusive interview on KTN, Mbadi distanced the party from the remarks saying Orengo was jumping the gun by calling for Ruto's impeachment.
He said although there were concerns regarding "Ruto’s behaviour and his stance on matters corruption" it was too early to call for his ouster.
However, Mbadi said ODM will not hesitate to back the DP's impeachment if the ongoing probe by the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) link him to corruption.
"I agree with Orengo but that is his personal opinion. He has expressed himself and that it is the right way to go. We need to allow the office of the DCI to complete investigations. Findings will determine whether we call for impeachment or not," the ODM boss said.
Mbadi, who is also the MP for Suba South, observed the debate to remove Ruto from office has received massive backing due to the DP's habit of attacking institutions investigating graft.
"There are so many leaders who feel Ruto is impeachable given his behaviour," he added.
DP Ruto has been complaining that the fight against graft targets him.
