Led by Mandera Governor Ali Roba, the leaders want residents to expose terror elements to security agencies.

Speaking to journalists after a closed-door meeting with Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Fred Matiang’i at the Kenya School of Government in Nairobi on Monday, the leaders said that unless they work together to tame Al-Shabaab, the terror militants will remain a threat to the region's economy and development.

Governor Roba said that the region has over the years suffered economically and socially as a result of terror threats and attacks.

“We have agreed that all of us must read from the same script in the war against Al-Shabaab,” Roba said on Monday.

Roba said that North Eastern residents and Kenyans at large have to be part of the security resolution for the war against terror to be won.

The meeting was attended by Garissa Township MP Aden Duale, Garissa Governor Ali Korane, Eldas MP Adan Keynan, Garissa senator Yusuf Haji and Mandera North MP Bashir Abdullahi.

North Eastern region especially Mandera and Garissa has witnessed a spate of terror attacks by Al-Shabaab in the recent years.

Last week, suspected Al-Shabaab militants stormed Arabia secondary school killing two non-local teachers.
