The Officer in charge of the issuance of birth certificates in Kisii Mathew Kayota, has fired warning shots to the officers charging the residents highly in order to get the certificates and told the residents that the whole process needs only Ksh. 150.
As reported in the local FM station, Kayota said that residents have been complaining in the recent past where officers in that office charge as from Ksh. 200 to Ksh. 1500, with a promise of hastening the whole process. Making the office seem corrupt.
"There has been complains from residents over being charged highly while they take advantage of the delays, saying they will hasten the process after they receive the amount. I want to bring into your attention that for a birth certificate to be processed, it needs one to have only Ksh.150 and wait for the feedback" Mathew Kayota said.
Kayota who warmed people's hearts by his sentiments also apologised for those who had applied for the birth certificates saying they will delay a little since they will give first priority who will resume their studies soon.
The issuance of Birth Certificates has been a problem in Kisii where the whole process would take so long. Early this year, the residents raised an alarm over too much delaying of the issuance of the certificates, as some parents were lamenting that their children would be locked out of the registration process for the national examinations.
