President Uhuru Kenyatta has finally admitted that Kenya cannot feed itself.
Speaking at the Kisii County Referral and Teaching Hospital, Uhuru said that the country has been dependent on imported foods.
He faulted the situation on the management of land in the country.
Uhuru, who is committed to accomplishing the Big Four Agenda, said that unless there is a change in the land tenure Kenyans will continue suffering.
“As it stands today, this country is not able to feed itself, we are dependent on imports from our neighbouring countries, from Uganda, Tanzania and others,” Uhuru he said.
He also said that the issue is likely to get worse because the population has continued to increase over years.
The head of state also said that he is not ready to end his relationship with ODM Leader Raila Amolo Odinga.
He insisted that his union with Raila means well for this nation. He also promised to transform the health sector before he leaves power.
“We will take bold steps to strengthen our health systems in all counties, in readiness for the national scale-up of the #UHC program. This is especially in areas of health infrastructure, human resources, access to essential medicines, and health leadership and governance,” he said.
