A section of MPs from Nyamira and Kisii Counties insist that the next Head of State must come from Rift Valley, arguing that Dr William Ruto stands a better chance.
Dr Ruto has been positioning himself to take after President Uhuru Kenyatta, but a number of Jubilee leaders have often accused him of early campaigns.
At North Mugirango on Sunday, the leaders said Rift Valley will produce the next president, arguing that the region has enough numbers to take over State House.
"Let's not lie to one another. The next President will be a Kalenjin and DP William Ruto stands a good chance of taking over from Uhuru," South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro said.
He added: "Infact, he is the only serious presidential candidate. As Abagusii, let's position ourselves in his camp so that when he takes over, we shall get something."
Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi said Dr Ruto is the most suitable candidate to win 2022 polls, arguing that his development record is impeccable.
"You don't need rocket science to tell the Rift Valley shall win the seat. We are solidly behind the DP and as Abagusii, we know that he won't let us down," he said.
Others who backed the sentiments include host Joash Nyamoko, Shadrack Mose, Alfa Miruka and Nyaribari Masaba MP Mr Ezekiel Mochogu.
The team has been leading anti-Fred Matiang'i rallies in the two counties, accusing him of failing to spur development in the region ever since taking over as minister.
Dr Matiang'i is also believed to be eyeing Presidency, a move that has left his Kisii backyard hugely divided. He is trying to bring on board most of Tanga Tanga members from the region.
