Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa joined Kilifi County Governor Amason Jeffah Kingi and other dignitaries from the Coast and other regions in attending the Chenda Chenda Festival at Karisa Maitha grounds, Kilifi.
Jumwa, who now supports Deputy President William Ruto despite being elected on an ODM party ticket, called for the Mijikenda unity on Sunday.
Kingi who was elected on an ODM ticket, seeks to vie for presidency in 2022 and is calling for the formation of one Coast political party that should be supported by leaders like Jumwa.
Chenda Chenda festival gives an opportunity to showcase the diverse cultures from the 9 tribes of the Mijikenda as well as promote peace and unity among the Mijikenda people.
"My gratitude goes to all the Kaya Elders and organisers who made the day a success. I hope the Chenda Chenda Festival will take stock in bringing solutions of the main agenda in food security, health, education, environment as well as security," said Jumwa who seeks to succeed Kingi in 2022.
Kingi and Jumwa pledged to support the Mijikenda culture and heritage.
