Former Mombasa Mayor Taib Ali Taib is among three top lawyers who have been selected to argue in court complex corruption cases on behalf of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Noordin Haji.
In a statement to newsrooms on Wednesday, the office of the DPP said that Taib will work alongside Philip Kipchirchir Murgor (former DPP) and James Muruthi Kihara.
The DPP said the three top lawyers were picked from a pool of 15 applicants who applied to offer legal services to his office.
According to Haji’s office, the three top lawyers will help ODPP in prosecuting complex cases.
“In a bid to strengthen the capacity of the ODPP and in the light of increasing complexity of crime, the DPP on 25th September 2018 put out a public advertisement requesting those interested to apply and be considered for pre-qualification to join the panel of ODPP lawyers to provide legal services,” the statement on ODPP's twitter account, read in part.
Taib, Murgor, and Kihara are expected to work with top British advocate Khawar Qureshi who has been hired by DPP as a private prosecutor.
Qureshi is expected to handle the case against Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu.
Mwilu’s petition challenging her intended prosecution over alleged graft comes up for hearing before a three bench judge on Thursday.
