Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho on Wednesday said the meeting will be used to decide the political direction the region will follow during the 2022 general polls.

He said all the six governors heading the counties will attend the conference that will be held on September 6th. The venue of the conclave has not been revealed.

"On September 6th, we will convene a meeting of all governors and Senators so that we agree on the future of our great region," he said at a press conference in Mombasa on Wednesday.

"What I can say now is that key in the agenda will be the unity of the people of Coast. There are however, other issues that will be discussed."

He expressed optimism that the region will field a presidential candidate during the 2022 poll.

Joho was speaking after he chaired a Coast leaders meeting that was held in Mombasa.

Among those in attendance were Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi, Coast region's former MPs as well as opposition MCAs drawn from the six counties of Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, Tana River, Taita Taveta and Lamu.

The September meeting will come at a time there are division in the region pitting leaders who are in support of Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 presidential bid and those against.
