With his first thrust into elective politics dating back to 16 years ago, Kabogo has left tongues wagging, many questioning the source of his immense wealth.

Over the years, the ex-Governor ran high-flying campaigns.

He stole the show in the 2013 campaigns when he was first elected as the Kiambu Governor. His campaigns were punctuated by opulence; a chopper in the air and a trail of high-end cars on the ground.

The same was replicated last year in his bid to retain his seat. But how did Kabogo make his millions?

After graduating from Punjab University in India with a Bachelor's degree in Commerce (Accounting), he secured a job at the Auditor-General's office where he worked as an auditor. He later moved to Mombasa where he ventured into business.

In a past interview with Citizen TV’s JKL show, Kabogo addressed the question of his wealth. He said he started working at the age of 22 and has made smart business choices to get to where he is today.

"I started working at the age of 22 in Mombasa and I have worked all these years very hard,” stated the former Kiambu County boss.“I am one of the real estate developers in Kenya and I don’t brag about what I do but really, I don’t do that business that."

In another interview with NTV, Kabogo termed himself an “international businessman” running several companies-real estates, importing commodities, clearing and forwarding and a supply chain for supermarkets.

“I work, I’m a businessman; I build houses and sell. I have done that for many years. I am an International businessman,” averred Kabogo well known for his flamboyance.

In this breath, he dismissed claims that he is a drug peddler, a business some say could have earned him colossal amounts of money.

He stated that the narrative was first weaved by his political competitors in 2002 to sway voters and it always surfaces during an electioneering period.

“This comes from the year 2002 when I was vying for MP Juja. Of course, that was the first time a helicopter was ever seen in campaigns and Stephen Ndichu and his team-these are the guys who started this talk why would a young man fly all over in a helicopter, why would he get all this money from?”
