Even as the war on corruption rages on, vocal Garissa politician Farah Maalim has sensationally claimed that Kenya as a country is headed the Zimbabwean way.
Speaking during an interview with Ebru Television, Maalim expressed fear that the massive corruption perpetrated by the political class would soon plunge the country to an economic crisis.
"I am afraid that is where we are heading as a country. We will soon go the Zimbabwe way," noted the former National Assembly Deputy Speaker as he faulted the massive borrowing by the government.
The sentiments comes barely a fortnight after the government secured a whopping Sh76 billion loan from the World Bank to fund the government's Big Four Agenda.
While lobbying for the loan, Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich claimed the country had sealed all possible graft loopholes.
While also striving to deal with graft, the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) governor Patrick Kamau launched a new currency, issuing October 1st as deadline for the validity of the old 1000 shillings note.
However, Maalim still feels the new move of changing the currency would not do much in taming corruption.
