Leaders in Nyamira County have ganged up to defend Chief Justice David Maraga following sharp criticism for attending political events.

Led by Nyamira County boss John Nyagarama the leaders said Maraga has a right visit his home county. 

"We will stand with Maraga until the end because he is the son of the soil. There is no crime when he attends events in his home county," said Nyagarama. 

The county chief urged CJ Maraga to continue visiting his home country. 

"This is your home. Don't ignore attending events at home area because many people will condemn you. Please continue coming,” said the governor. 

Nyamira Senator Okong'o Omogeni urged Maraga to focus on serving Kenyans and ignore critics. 

“As leaders from Nyamira we will defend you. No one should tell you on how you should work,” said Omogeni. 

Borabu MP Ben Momanyi on his part dismissed a petition by Yussuf Ibrahim Dimbi seeking to remove Maraga from office on grounds that he is tribal. 

“CJ office should be respected as other arms of government. We will not allow anyone to frustrated Maraga," said the vocal MP allied to opposition. 

The leaders were speaking on Friday at the funeral in Ogango village, Bonyamatuta ward in West Mugirango, Nyamira County.
