Interior CS Fred Matiang'i has vowed to weigh in on criminal gangs beginning to cause havoc in the matatu industry.
Matian'gi said that his ministry has received complaints from matatu owners that there are gangs intimidating and extorting money from matatu operators and their clients.
In a statement, Matiang'i said that these gangs take from matatus as much as Sh50,000 to give them license to operate.
A few years ago, such gangs were the order of the day in Nairobi's low-income areas like Kibera, Githurai and Mathare.
In other news, the government will starting next week increase vigilance on road users as the festive season comes calling.
