Majority Leader in the National Assembly Aden Duale floored a political heavyweight in the 2007 parliamentary elections.
Duale clinched the Garissa Township parliamentary seat from a political veteran Mohamed Hussein Maalim.
The latter had ruled this constituency as it evolved from Garissa Central, Dujis then Garissa Township constituency.
Interestingly, his son-in-law Aden Duale defeated Maalim in 2007 polls.
Duale dethroned the brother to his father-in-law using an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party ticket.
This win was the beginning of an admirable career that has seen him grow to be among the most powerful men in Kenya.
He retained his seat in 2013 despite dumping Raila Odinga’s ODM for William Ruto’s URP.
Duale still defended his seat in 2017 on a Jubilee party ticket after President Uhuru Kenyatta’s TNA merged with DP Ruto’s URP.
