In a statement on Tuesday, the Raila Odinga-led outfit said it decided to withdraw from the mini-poll slated for April 25 following "high-level party consultations" with Jubilee Party.

In a sarcastic tweet, Murkomen said Raila's candidate had "defected" to the ruling party and asked voters in the constituency to come out in large numbers on the poll day to "confirm" Jubilee's win.

"We welcome the defection of Prof.Mohamed Elmi Yusuf from ODM to Jubilee. We wish our brother Hon.Mohamed Kolosh every success. We request the people of Wajir West to confirm his victory in the upcoming elections," the Elgeyo-Marakwet Senator posted.

ODM Director of Elections Junet Mohamed explained that by resolving not to face off President Uhuru Kenyatta-led outfit was to reciprocate an earlier gesture where Jubilee pulled out of three mini-polls where ODM had fielded candidates.

“The party has arrived at this decision following consultations with the top leadership of the Jubilee Party during which we agreed to reciprocate Jubilee’s earlier decision to withdraw from the Migori, Ugenya and Embakasi South by-elections," Mohamed tweeted.
