On Tuesday, Raila met opposition MPs and agreed to back President Uhuru Kenyatta's memorandum on budget cuts.

But Mr. Odinga Jnr, who has been siding with anti-VAT group, says MPs should save Kenyans from the impending 'monster'.

"I have given @RailaOdinga my views against the 8% rise in VAT and expressed reasoning for MPs to vote independently. #Kenyansfirst," he said.

On Tuesday, he had said: "The VAT is draconian and I urge my MP Ken Okoth to vote against it."

Despite Raila's meeting, a section of MPs from his bedrock led by Otiende Amollo, Jared Okello and Janet Ong'era have vehemently opposed the move.

MPs will vote on Thursday for or against Uhuru's proposal and a win for opposing group may give Uhuru headache.
