For the past one year, Mudavadi, who served as President Uhuru Kenyatta's de facto running mate in 2002, has ruled out working in government, insisting that he's keen to perform 'opposition leadership' duties.

And on Monday, Savula said the party is in talks with President Uhuru Kenyatta, convincing him to back Mr Mudavadi's candidature for exchange with a running mate from the vast Central Kenya region.

"We are focused in convincing the president to support Mudavadi's presidential bid now that he's doing his final term. We are hopeful that he will finally do that," Savula said. https://www.standardmedia.co.ke/article/2001309453/mudavadi-hunts-for-2022-running-mate-from-mt-kenya-region.

He added: "With his blessings and of course a strong running mate from Central Kenya, our party leader will be the favourite candidate for State House. That is a guarantee."

Months to 2013 polls, there were plans to have Mudavadi as Jubilee candidate but the move backfired reportedly following the opposition from DP William Ruto. The ANC leader finished distance third after Raila Odinga and eventual winner, President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Savula's comments comes just barely a month after President Uhuru Kenyatta's ally and immediate former Jubilee vice chair David Murathe attended Maragoli festivals in Western Kenya where he denounced Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 candidature.

During the event, Central Organisation of Trade Unions Secretary General Francis Atwoli maintained that Mr Musalia Mudavadi remains the de facto spokesperson of the Luhya community.
