Former Lagdera MP Farah Maalim is among vocal politicians who are languishing in the political cold after losing in last years (2017) general election.
Maalim, a former close ally of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga has been in the political cold since 2013 when he lost a bid for the Garissa senate seat.
In 2017, Maalim lost the seat to his fierce rival Aden Duale.
Before the hotly contested 2017 parliamentary election, Maalim had ditched Raila’s Orange Party and joined Kalonzo Musyoka’s Wiper Party.
Maalim, a veteran politician was then appointed as Wiper Party deputy leader prior to the 2017 general election.
Maalim’s political future remains uncertain even as the 2022 succession politics start to take shape.
According to political analyst Peter Ngure, Maalim can only make a comeback if he returns to Raila’s Orange Party.
He says that the veteran politician will remain in the political cold if he does not return to the Odinga's party.
“Many politicians who have rebelled against Raila and abandoned him never make it in politics,” he says.
Ngure says that Raila holds Maalim’s future political success.
With the 2022 succession politics taking shape, Maalim is among North Eastern politicians who will make a great political influence in the region.
There are claims that the former National Assembly Deputy Speaker could make another stab for the Garissa Township Parliamentary seat in 2022.
