When Elgeiyo Marakwet Senator and the Senate Majority Leader Hon. Kipchumba Murkomen and Cheranganyi Member of Parliament Hon. Joshua Kuttuny were invited by Citizen TV journalist Husein Mohamed, they were to debate about the issue of maize farming which the government and farmers have failed to agree on the price per bag.
But the leaders began exposing each other's private political life instead of discussing the way forward to solve the problem between the government and maize farmers. As citizens, we choose leaders to represent our interests in the government but the debate between these two leaders showed that our leaders only care about protecting their political interests.
In my humble opinion, the two leaders who both come from the Rift Valley region were only interested in defending their political stands with Hon. Murkomen a most trusted ally of the Deputy President William Ruto while Hon. Kuttuny has openly differed with the DP's camp.
Moreover both Murkomen and Kuttuny confirmed that they supplied maize to NCPB and have both been paid which shows hypocracy of our leaders are pretending to be defending the common mwananchi while with them they sort out their problems first.
The much publicized interview between the two leaders failed to offer a solution to the problem they went to debate on and instead debated on their road to political fame. Our leaders should put our interest first since that is why we employ them through voting.
