In 2015, Kitui elders hit the headlines for threatening to curse the man who took possession of the mystic Nzambani rock.
The elders who met at the foot of the rock claimed that they will send a strong curse that will make the man "bear puppies instead of children".
The elders claimed that they will invoke the powers of the Kamba oath known as Muma or Kithitu to reclaim back the mystic rock.
Joseph Ndava, an elder had said that some people had conspired to take possession of the revered rock saying that anyone using the ladder to climb up the rock will come falling down.
Among the people who were to be cursed included former Cabinet Minister Kyale Mwendwa's family.
The elder claimed that the rock is a sacred shrine and should be repossessed by the community.
Due to this, a motion was passed by the Kitui County Assembly seeking to strip off the ownership of the rock from the Kyale family and back to the community despite the fact that this family continued to manage the rock through their company Nzambani rock development company.
The family is said to have leased the rock since the year 2004.
