The now Kenyan ambassador to Uganda is a diplomat, he previously served as an ambassador to Turkey.

Born in 1966 in Kitui County, Kilonzo is among politicians said to be eyeing the Kitui gubernatorial seat in 2022.

A Master’s Degree holder in Peace and Conflict, Kiema is experienced enough to give Governor Charity Ngilu a run for her money in 2022 polls.

Political analyst Peter Ngure notes that Kilonzo could easily win the Kitui gubernatorial seat in 2022 if he contests for the seat.

“Kilonzo is a potential candidate and could take over the county’s leadership if Governor Ngilu fails to deliver on her mandate,” Ngure said.

He spoke to this writer in Nairobi on Monday.

Ngure said the ambassador is a strategist and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka's close ally.

He said Kilonzo's experience in diplomacy could be of benefit to Kitui residents.

Ngure said Kilonzo could easily work with Kitui MCAs who are currently embroiled in a tussle with Ngilu over a supplementary budget.

Though Kilonzo has not hinted on vying for the Kitui gubernatorial seat in 2022, chances are high that he will be on the ballot.

Ngilu is, however, expected to defend her seat in the next elections.

Kilonzo joined active politics in 2022 when he was elected as Kitui East MP on Forum for Restoration of Democracy [FRD].

He retained the seat in 2007 general election on Kalonzo Musyoka’s Wiper Democratic Movement (WDM) party ticket.

Kilonzo unsuccessfully vied for the Kitui gubernatorial seat in 2013.

He contested on Governor Charity Ngilu’s NARC party ticket emerging second behind former Governor Julius Malombe.
