A 26-year-old woman suspected of having aborted her unborn baby has been arrested by the police in Naivasha.
Naivasha Sub-County Police Commander Samuel Waweru who confirmed the incident said the crime was discovered by neighbours of Nyondia village.
Waweru said the residents informed the police who immediately acted on the information received and arrested the woman.
The police commander said the woman had her pregnancy allegedly terminated and dumped the foetus in a pit latrine.
He said they are investigating the matter and the woman who is in police custody will undergo a medical test on Tuesday to ascertain whether she aborted.
Waweru added that the woman will be charged in court after it has been established that she had terminated her pregnancy.
“Neighbours claimed that the woman dumped the foetus in a pit latrine but we are yet to confirm that,” said Waweru.
A local leader, Bernard Macharia, said he received information of the incident from the area residents that the woman had procured abortion on Monday morning.
“According to her neighbours, the suspect had been threatening to abort, citing the high cost of living,” he said.
