Most of these city matatus are operated by drivers and conductors or touts.

'Makangas' or touts are the people city dwellers encounter daily in the course of their work.

Here are annoying things some Nairobi matatu touts do.

1. Refusing to give change

Some 'makangas' have the habit of withholding balance of their customers.

It is a common and annoying habit especially in matatus plying Kibera routes.

These 'makangas' purposefully withhold change with the intention that the customer will forget about it for them to pocket it.

Things become worse when you request for your balance and in many cases, they will insult you.

2. Use of vulgar/abusive language

Some 'makangas' are known to use an abusive language and words on their customers especially when their customers question their behavior.

These 'makangas' are never afraid and don’t care about how they approach and talk to their customers.

3. Wearing torn clothes

Some 'makangas' put on torn clothes creating embarrassment for themselves and their clients.

In many cases you will find them with half unzipped trousers or torn shirts, trousers and courts.

4. Smelly touts

It is common to find some 'makangas' who are smelling.

They don’t shower and end up causing discomfort to their customers.

5. Assault

It is a common habit among some city touts who assault their customers.

These rogue 'makangas' in most cases target women and girls.

They use abusive and vulgar language and in some cases cause bodily harm. There are hundreds of cases of 'makangas' who have been charged in court with the offense of assault.

It will be good if touts and drivers observe good conduct in their work and avoid things that annoy and cause discomfort to their customers.
