The incident occurred on Sunday evening at Nyanturago village in Nyaribari Masaba Constituency, Kisii County.

Boniface Osamo claimed that his son, Walter Oroo Osamo stole Sh200 from his bedroom and used the money to gamble.

“My son sneaked into my bedroom and stole Sh200. He went ahead and used the money for gambling. I realised the money was missing when I sent my daughter to pick the money to buy vegetable oil,” he said.

Mr Osamo said upon questioning his son, he admitted to having stolen the money and using it to gamble.

“I caned him thoroughly for stealing the money. I am not going to allow him to continue stealing since he may end up becoming a threat to the family and the entire village,” he said.

Commenting on the matter, area assistant chief Joel Okeyo said parents should be vigilant to ensure their children don’t engage in theft.

“Parents should not defend their children when they steal. Necessary disciplinary actions should be taken against minors engaging in criminal activities such as theft. We don’t want thieves in the village,” he said.
