George Kamau, a 22-year-old Moi University student is mourning after he lost Sh18,000 meant for school fees.

This is after he used the money to place a bet on Tuesday night's World Cup match between Nigeria and Argentina.

The Economic student who is in the second year was met with rude shock after his team, Nigeria lost to Argentina 0-2.

A close friend of him identified as Bruce Kirui revealed how Kamau ended up betting.

"We were preparing in the room to go and pay school fees, but then Kamau brought up the discussion on which team could win between Nigeria and Argentina to which I insisted on Argentina to win," Kirui said.

After a heated discussion, Kirui revealed that Kamau was so sure Nigeria will win that he pledged to use his school fees to bet on the Super Eagles win.

"I was hundred percent sure Nigeria was to lose that match but Kamau could not hear my advice and without hesitating, he went to the nearest Mpesa shop where he deposited the whole Sh18,000 meant for fees and immediately transferred the money to his betting account and placed a bet with possible winnings of Sh107,000 which caught me by surprise," noted Kirui.

Kamau is said to have contacted his parents to intervene in the situation.
