The new fuel prices will remain intact following president Uhuru Kenyatta's decision to reject Finance Bill, 2018.
Uhuru, who had remained mum for five days since his return from abroad, received the amended version of the bill at 6pm from Speaker Justin Muturi.
And hours later, the president returned in to parliament this giving MPs another opportunity to determine its fate.
For now, Kenyans will continue shouldering 16% VAT following the Head of States's decision.
MPs had amended the bill to scrap VAT on petroleum products but the government defied even the court order restraining it from effecting the new rates.
Throughout the country, Matatu operators vowed to shift the burden for commuters, the reason why most Kenyans have been putting their hope on the president.
And at parliament, if 233 MPs vote for status quo (standing in with the bill), Uhuru will have no option other than signing it into law.
