Kisii County Governor James Ongwae has been condemned for allegedly sending county revenue collecting officers to collect tax from a road contractor working on a road at Mosocho area.
During an interview with Hivisasa on Friday, angry locals who have been working at the construction site faulted Mr Ongwae for collecting tax against the law.
"Ongwae must be ashamed of using county tax collectors and reinforcement officers to force the Chinese contractor who has given us jobs to pay tax because of fetching water from a natural river. This is not the kind of leadership we want from the corrupt governor," said Amos Onsongo.
Gilbert Monda, another local, protested Ongwae's decision to tax the foreign contractor who is constructing a public road.
"He is taxing the contractor so that he can get money to steal. We elected a failure who is jealous because Mosocho locals are working at the construction site to earn a living," said Monda.
Stella Momanyi claimed that she has been selling food to road workers but for the last three days, she has not sold any food.
"I'm blaming Ongwae since I've not sold food to road workers who are being harassed by Ongwae's government. Why should Ongwae tax the contractor for fetching water from a natural river? It is shameful for a person of the governor's status," she stated.
