The most affected was the Garissa-Nairobi route, where traffic police officers together with NTSA officials mounted a major crackdown on all PSVs.

Passengers had no alternative but had to trek to their destinations or use bodaboda which took the opportunity to hike fare by almost a hundred percent of normal prices.

However, at least 22 Public Service Vehicles fell victims of the crackdown that started at 5.00 am in the morning. According to the Garissa OCPD the vehicles and drivers netted had violated various traffic rules ranging from broken glasses to drivers using expired licenses.

“So far, we have managed to net at least 22 vehicles since the inspection exercise kicked off at 5 am. We have detected various traffic offenses ranging from broken vehicle windscreens, expired licenses, lack of inspection stamps and some drivers operating without valid driving licenses,” OCPD Moriasi revealed.

The police boss further indicated that the crackdown will continue.
