National Super League (NSL) side Kisumu All Stars took a major step towards Kenya Premier League (KPL) promotion next season after beating visiting Eldoret Youth 2-0 at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu on Wednesday afternoon.
An Ian Mutanda goal in the 67th minute, and an Eldoret Youth own goal in the 79th minute gave the Blue Eagles all the three points to continue the match towards KPL promotion.
Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o who doubles up as the teams Patron was among fans who turned up for the match.
Wazito FC lost 0-1 away to Modern Coast Rangers, while Bidco United beat Ushuru FC 2-0 in other matches played on Wednesday.
All Stars now lead the NSL table standings with 63 points, three points ahead of second placed Wazito FC while Ken Kenyatta’s Ushuru FC remain third with 59 points after 30 rounds of matches.
Only 8 matches remain before end of the season, with the top two teams earning an automatic promotion spot to the KPL next season, while the third placed team will square it out with the 3rd last team in KPL in order to determine the final KPL spot.
Kisumu All stars next assignment is against Bidco United at the Thika Municipal Stadium on Sunday.
