Nakuru is among towns where many cases of twilight girls are assaulted and even murdered.
In the recent years, cases of sex workers being killed and their bodies dumped in lodges and hotels in the town were reported.
According to Rita Kamau, a sex workers' activist in Naivasha, a majority of sex workers don’t take their safety seriously.
She observes that sex workers fall into the hands of criminals unknowingly.
The activist said that high competition has made sex traders to run to every client they meet in town.
“Majority of sex workers in Nakuru never consider their security when doing business with clients,” she said.
She said some sex workers are killed for demanding their pay.
“We encourage them to ask for their clients’ identification before agreeing to do business,” she adds.
The activist said that there is a need for sex workers to be sensitized about their security.
Reuben Ndichu, a security expert, said those who benefit from prostitution should help to ensure their safety.
He adds that lodging and hotel owners need to put in place measures that will guarantee the security of clients especially sex workers.
Nakuru sex workers have in the recent days staged demos demanding for the arrest of people behind their colleagues' killings.
