A middle-aged woman is crying for justice after she was battered by her estranged husband in Langalanga estate in the outskirts of Nakuru town.
Esther Njeri who addressed Journalists on Friday morning after she was discharged from the hospital said she was attacked after trying to visit her four children who live with their father who has since remarried.
She stated that she has not seen her children for the last five months and her visit was met with violence.
She says her husband who they have been living with for more than 20 years turned violent and could not listen to her.
However, she narrates that the neighbours who turned up were women and there was nothing that they could do to help her.
“I screamed and neighbours came but they could not help as they were all women and none of them tried to move closer since he was armed with wooden frame,” said Njeri.
She says she decided to report the matter to Central Police station but on arriving there she was shocked to find that her husband had already arrived and even threatened her that the case was going nowhere.
According to the woman, this is not the first time that her husband has battered her. She claims that sometime back she was also admitted to hospital after the husband poured hot tea on her.
Njeri is now calling on the government to rescue her.
“I just hope that government apparatus will help me get justice in all this,” she said.
Police have launched investigations into the incident.
Cases of domestic violence reported to the Federation of Women Lawyers (Fida) hit a five-year high in the first half of 2018.
In 2017, the figure stood at 2,028 between January and JuneFida calling for a concerted effort from all sectors of the society to work towards the reduction of gender-based violence.
According to the United Nations, one in three women and girls experience physical or sexual violence in their lifetime.
