For the better part of Sunday, grief engulfed Ribaita village in Matutu, Borabu Sub-County in Nyamira County following the death of a class six pupil.

Area chief Jackline Kemunto Onserio confirmed the death of Clinton Machoka Ngoko, 13 whose lifeless body was found on Sunday morning hanging from the roof of a room where he has been sleeping. 

"Ngoko returned home on Saturday evening from a grazing field after which his mother picked a quarrel with him on grounds that he arrived late home and sent him away from the sitting room. 

"The deceased proceeded to his room where he hanged himself using a rope," said the chief as Egesa Fm reports. 

The chief said the Ngoko's mother found the body before she raised alarm to attract neighbours. 

Ms Onserio appealed to parents to be careful when handling their children, arguing that the rate at which children are committing suicide not only in Nyamira County but across the country is high. 

"I alerted police officers from Matutu police station who arrived and picked the body to Nyamira hospital morgue as burial plans commences," noted the chief. 

According to the chief, death snatched a bright pupil who had a focused future.
