Police in Kisii have arrested over 18 people over alleged exam malpractices in Monianku Secondary School in Gucha South.
The arrest came barely 7 hours after a candidate from Gesiasa Secondary School from the neighbouring Nyamira County collapsed and died moments after Maths paper.
And in the afternoon, Kisii Police Commander Bernard Muli said, the eighteen among them supervisors and invigilators were arrested for conspiring to cheat in the exams.
“They were arrested on Monday evening and we have already begun interrogating them to establish why they had the examination material outside the examination centre," said Mr Muli.
He added: "Some were found with Chemistry paper which was ongoing in a neighbouring house and I can confirm all are in."
Mr John Mutende, (supervisor) and invigilators Mr Joel Omagwa, Ms Edna Morwabe, Mr Gideon Nyagaka, Mr Bernard Omoro, Mr John Abuta, Ms Ann Nyaboke and Mr Joel Nyakwanya together with school's deputy teacher Mr Peter Arori were arrested.
Those found in the house were Ms Irene Kivunja Mbone, Ms Judith Nyabeki, Mr Alex Ziko Akuma, Mr Christopher Ogora and Mr Marori Edwin.
Also being sought are the school's bursar Mr Peter Onchieku and Mr Fred Okindo, the owner of a photocopying machine.
Last month, education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang said that among the 200 schools being investigated for cheating were from Kisii and Nyamira Counties.
