Itumbi did not reveal the identity of the person who issued the directive.

"Meanwhile, Someone was still issuing instructions to the County Commissioner and juniors in command structure to keep off DP Functions for the time he was in Turkana. Very interesting people in our GOK Offices, " Itumbi's post read in part.

The DP toured the county to attend an interdenominational church service and inspect projects undertaken by the national government.

His visit came to an end on Monday.

He promised the residents, in a meet-the-people tour, that the government would continue developing the county long plagued by poverty and underdevelopment.

Among the projects that Ruto inspected were the Kainuk bridge, which is undergoing reconstruction, and the Mogilla Dam Water Supply Project.

Itumbi's post adds to growing suspicion about tensions within government over the Deputy President's political exploits.

Turkana Governor Josphat Nanok, long an ally of veteran ODM leader Raila Odinga, appeared to throw his weight behind the DP's 2022 presidential ambitions.
