When United States President Barack Obama came to Kenya in July 2015, he promised at the end of the visit that he would return as a civilian and go to his ancestral home in K'Ogelo.
This is the place in Siaya County where his father, Barack Hussein Obama Sr, was born and raised.
Speaking at the Safaricom Indoor Arena in Kasarani, Obama also promised that during his visit after leaving office he would be accompanied by his wife and their two daughters.
"I will be back to Kenya next time, maybe not in a suit. I would also come with Malia and Sasha. My family loves Kenya," Obama pledged.
On SUnday he arrived at the land of his father, but alone. His wife Michelle and daughters were nowhere to be seen. Kenyans were 'denied' a chance to meet their 'grandchildren', a promise not kept.
The then most powerful person in the world had also said he would take his time to explore Kenya and the neighbouring countries once he retired.
"I know that there are still places in this beautiful nation that I have not discovered. I am going to make sure that I get back and it is not just Kenya, there is an ecosystem that is connected from Uganda to Tanzania. Climbing Kilimanjaro seems like something that should be on my list of things to do once I get out of here," he said as quoted by Nation.
"The Secret Service does not like me climbing mountains but as a private citizen hopefully, I can get away with something like that," added the 'most famous son of K'Ogelo'.
After his brief appearance in Siaya where he will inaugurate the Sauti Kuu Foundation on Monday, Obama will leave for South Africa for a three-day visit. He won't climb mountains as he had promised.
