Benjamin Ong'ombe, Kangundo sub-county police commander, confirmed the incident.

He told hivisasa on phone that the man was a suspected thief who was nabbed stealing police clothes from a cloth line.

"He was found stealing clothes from a cloth line, he was stacking them in a gunia. They were not many seems he had just began," said Ong'ombe.

He said that when the man was spotted by one of the officers he was ordered to stop but took off and that's when he was shot.

The police boss said that the body of the man was moved to Kangundo hospital mortuary for preservation.

However the family of the deceased denied claims that the man was a thief.

Moses Kilonzo the deceased's brother said that the reports are false because his brother has never stolen anything.

"My brother was not a thief as the police are claiming," said Kilonzo.

He said that he had no idea why his brother was at the scene at the time of the incident.
