The Nation Media Group has been forced to apologize to Deputy President William Ruto over a story it carried in its Sunday paper.
The story on Kenya’s sugar cartels erroneously used a picture of DP Ruto, Majority Leader Aden Duale and Nakuru-based businessman Jas Bedi and identified him as Jaswant Rai.
A kicker on the story said: Jaswant Rai, the man at the centre of the sugar importation saga, is not your ordinary tenderpreneur who pops out when the government announces a mega project or keeps shuttling between state offices to push for tenders. He has deep roots weaved around powerful political families, granting him his wish.
On Monday, the Daily Nation rushed to apologize over the editorial gaffe caused by its sister edition.
“We take this early opportunity to apologize to the Deputy President, Mr. Duale, Mr. Bedi and Mr. Rai for the mix-up and misrepresentation,” the paper wrote in part of its apology.
