Three men flee for their dear lives after residents cornered them driving away two cows they had stolen from Mwongori village in Borabu, Nyamira County on Friday.
Confirming the incident, Borabu assistant county commissioner Michael Lesmum said the owner of the cows raised alarm after the thieves stormed his homestead and stole them.
"It was at 11 pm when the thieves drove away the cows from the cowshed. Luckily, the owner was alert. He raised alarm to attract members of the public who chased the thieves," Lesmum said.
Lesmum said the angry locals cornered the thieves a kilometer away.
"Upon realizing villagers were almost catching up with them, the thieves abandoned the cows at the roadside and escaped on foot towards Sotik," he added.
He said police officers who joined villagers to chase the thieves didn't manage to apprehend the suspects.
Lesmum said investigations were ongoing to ensure that the culprits are brought to book.
"It seems livestock theft is slowly returning to this region. Security officers will be on high alert to apprehend cattle rustlers," he stated.
