President Uhuru Kenyatta has assented to the Finance Bill 2018 after Parliament passed it on Thursday.
In a tweet on Friday, President Kenyatta said, “I have signed into law the Finance Bill 2018. I give my commitment that I will ensure proper utilization of public resources for a better Kenya.”
The President also said that he will not relent on war against corruption.
The Bill was presented to the President by Garissa Township MP Aden Duale who is also the National Assembly Majority and National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi.
The President signed the Bill in the presence of Deputy President William Ruto and other top government officials.
Parliament approved the Bill that imposes 8% VAT on fuel and petroleum products on Thursday.
A section of MPs have however raised reservations over the Bill saying it will push Kenyans to economic hardships.
