Five presidents from across Africa, especially East Africs, are set to tour the lakeside county if Kisumu within the next few months.
Presidents Yoweri Museveni (Uganda), John Magufuli (Tanzania) and Pierre Nkuruzinza of Burundi will be hosted in Kisumu by President Uhuru Kenyatta by August.
Also expected are Felix Tsishekedi and Paul Kagame who are expected to visit the county to witness the new look Kisumu Poet, which the state has been working on refurbishing.
Consequently, preparations are already in place to host the presidents for the relaunch of the Kisumu Port, including clearing of bushes around the area, according to the Standard.
The leaders are also expected to take a ride in the MV Uhuru which roared for the first time on Tuesday, after 13 years of being unoperational due to mechanical issues.
The state has been very committed on refurbishing the port which has not been fully operational since 2009, as it seeks to tap in more on the blue economy revenue.
The state has since allocated 3 billion to give the port a facelift, which is set to be bettered by the extension of the standard gauge railway set to reach Kisumu in the future.
