Many Kenyans, especially on social media, are still flabbergasted by the revelations that Citizen TV news anchor Jacque Maribe has been dating a 'poor' guy whom she even house at her Lang'ata apartment.
Expectations among many were that Maribe would be dating a guy who is even richer than her going by the lavishness and opulence associated with many Kenyan TV girls.
Nevertheless, as we all know, this is not the case with Maribe. Her fiancé is as broke as a church mouse, at least going by Maribe's standards and social status.
The question, therefore is, didn't Maribe know that the fella who is now facing murder charges, was broke before she agreed to his proposal?
All indications are that she was aware of her fiancé's weak financial muscle. Why then did she warmly embrace Joseph Irungu who has now dragged her big name and good reputation into the mess he is currently in?
1. Control
It is an inherent desire in every human to have people around them whom they can control and 'boss' around and in this case, women are no exception. Were it not that many women are born in patriarchal societies, they would not hate to be masters of their marital households. But wait, they have a chance!
A woman who has a big financial muscle than her spouse, will in many cases rightfully assume the role of a 'master' of the house. There is nothing that excites many ladies like this and Maribe may not be an exception.
2. Broke men are like a marionette
A male spouse without a financial muscle is as docile as a lame duck. The fact that the woman knows that her man is reliant on her financially, keeps her at ease knowing that she is the one pulling the strings. Yes, for he who pays the pauper calls the tune.
3. Almost assured that the guy will remain faithful to her
Many men's desire to want to follow their own capricious and depraved inclinations or waywardness is mostly catalyzed by the 'warmth' of the money or wealth that they possess.
Therefore, it goes without saying that many broke men are less likely to cheat on their partners and vice versa. Or they will use their wives' material possessions to go out and woo other women?
Perhaps, only for a short while before they are found out in which case the consequences will be dire. Very dire indeed!
